DNC 2016 PhiladelphiaJust north of us, in Philadelphia, the atmosphere is heating up – thanks, in large part, to Tim Kaine and Debbie Wasserman Schultz – while here in Baltimore, our temperatures are through the roof and our baseball team is on fire, as Darren O’Day returns from the DL and we’ve seen action like the recent Nolan Reimold walk off homer. It’s a hot time in the mid-Atlantic.

Given all that scorching heat, it’s no wonder that the people are Baltimore are excited about the latest news out of the National Aquarium. The local institution recently announced that they’re teaming up with Dogfish Head on SeaQuench Ale, a brand new sour beer flavored with lime and sea salt, which will be available at the Aquarium café starting on August 1.

Of course, there’s more than beer happening at the Aquarium right now; there are plenty of family-friendly events, as well. To make the most of a visit to the Aquarium, be sure to download the Aquarium app before visiting. Once there, don’t miss any of the great exhibits, including longtime favorites, like the Amazon River Forest and the hands-on experience of the Living Seashore.

Port Discovery is another great downtown family activity; $2 Target Family Fun Nights make it especially affordable for any family. On the third Friday of every month, general admission is just $2 per person after 4 p.m. Family Fun nights include special activities, like bike rodeos and family crafts.

If you make it to Port Discovery earlier in the day, you’ll be treated to a variety of events taking place each week, from quick arts and crafts at Art a la Cart to Kamishibai Story Time, celebrating Japanese paper theater and storytelling.

chix-logo2Both the Aquarium and Port Discovery are interactive and full of action – you’re sure to work up an appetite at either one. After the museums, hit a nearby restaurant for dinner. At Chicken Rico, kids will love the Peruvian chicken (just make sure they don’t eat too much of the spicy green sauce!) and at Miss Shirley’s, they’ll go crazy for fun dishes like pizza waffles.

Whether you’re dropping in for a quick visit or making a day and evening of a trip downtown, make Harbor Park Garage your first stop. It’s reasonably priced and conveniently located at 55 Market Place – a short walk to restaurants and museums – and if you have any questions at all, the friendly staff will be more than happy to help you.
