By day, the stretch of St. Paul Street under the Orleans Street Viaduct looks unassuming – like any other regular downtown Baltimore street. But on Thursday, April 6, it will transform into “The Light Tunnel,” coming alive with light and music, when LIT CITY, a high-energy dance party, takes over the space.
Sponsored by the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, LIT CITY includes a DJ spinning upbeat tunes, an open bar and food from several Baltimore City hotspots, including brand new Canton restaurant Cask & Grain, Mount Vernon’s fabulous new place The Elephant, hip Greek restaurant Cava Mezze and the classic Baltimore joint Phillips Seafood.
St. Paul Street – the lower portion, near Mercy Hospital – will be shut down from Centre Street heading south for the party, which lasts from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and is 21 and over only. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased from www.godowntownbaltimore.com.
The “LIT” part of the equation comes from the lights strung across the ceiling the viaduct creates over St. Paul Street. They have been there for years and can change color to suit the occasion. On Thursday night, they’ll light up the night – and the dance floor.
LIT CITY is part of Baltimore’s Light City – a week-plus long festival of light, art, music and innovation. The event, which includes light art installations placed all around the Inner Harbor and in neighborhoods throughout the city, concerts and performances and conferences, is spectacular in every sense, and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors to the region.
If you’re headed to LIT CITY or the Light City installations, you’ll find convenient and centrally located parking at Harbor Park Garage, located at 55 Market Place in downtown Baltimore. During the Light City festivities, Harbor Park is offering a $15 all-day parking ticket (to take advantage of the offer, visit the office on Level 2 of the garage for a discount validation ticket).
