Looking for parking near the National Aquarium in Baltimore? Harbor Park Garage is proud to be the official parking partner of the Aquarium — and we’re celebrating one of Baltimore’s most inspiring new attractions: the Harbor Wetland®, now marking its first full year on the Inner Harbor.
A Year of Growth and Discovery
Opened in August 2024, the Harbor Wetland® has transformed a section of the Inner Harbor into a thriving salt marsh that’s home to more than 139 species of wildlife. From butterflies and terrapins to herons and river otters, this living ecosystem brings the Chesapeake Bay to life right in downtown Baltimore.
The exhibit isn’t just beautiful — it’s making a difference. The Aquarium’s ongoing research shows improved water quality in the harbor, with better oxygen levels and clearer water nearly 34% of the time during low-oxygen events. It’s a small but powerful example of how nature-based design can help heal urban waterways.
Award-Winning Innovation
In just its first year, the Harbor Wetland® has already earned national recognition, including:
- AZA Facility Award (2025)
- Urban Land Institute WaveMaker Award
- American Society of Civil Engineers Innovation Award
Even through storms, heat waves, and changing tides, the Harbor Wetland has stood firm — a testament to the Aquarium’s commitment to sustainability and education.
