National Aquarium Tours and Pier Six Concerts to Entertain Y …

Baltimore’s hometown favorite, Adam Wakefield, might not have emerged triumphant over Alisan Porter on the #VoiceFinale, but that’s OK. We were able to drown our collective sorrow on #NationalWineDay – and soothe our souls with the sweet story (and great dancing) of Nyle DiMarco on #DWTS.

Plus, we’ve got plenty to keep us busy here in Baltimore.

At the National Aquarium, there are all sorts of tours and events on deck, including the Icky, Creepy, Slimy Cool Tour, a behind-the-scenes tour with sharks, and a tour designed around the legend of Calypso’s Gold.

During the Icky, Creepy, Slimy Cool Tour, Aquarium visitors aged 8 and older get inside the lives of the creepiest and weirdest animals in the building, learning about what makes them tick and what it takes to care for the critters.

The Sharks! Behind-the-Scenes Tour is just what it sounds like – an opportunity to get up close and (uncomfortably) personal with the feared predators. Expert guides help visitors understand the lives of sharks, how they’re cared for and even how they’re fed at the Aquarium.

And the Legend of Calypso’s Gold allows 5 to 10 year olds (and those older and younger) to take a fantastic journey in search of Calypso’s hidden treasure. The tour takes visitors all over the Aquarium, uncovering “clues” and solving riddles for a fun, engaging experience.

Pier Six LogoBut if music is the only way to get you past the Voice Finale heartbreak, Pier Six is offering plenty of choices. Alt-country fans are gearing up for two nights with The Avett Brothers, starting June 3, and those who just can’t get away from music-oriented TV are psyched for former American Idol contestant, Fantasia, with Anthony Hamilton, on June 5.

Later this summer, there’s a ton of variety coming to the Pier Six stage, from Barenaked Ladies at the end of June to Young Thug and Young Jeezy, just announced on July 23 and the Grateful Dead tribute act Dark Star Orchestra July 29.

No matter what your musical – or undersea – preference, if you’re heading downtown, grab a parking spot at Harbor Park Garage. Located at 55 Market Place – a short and convenient walk to Pier Six and the Aquarium – the garage is reasonably priced and staffed with helpful attendants who can answer any questions you might have about how to get around downtown.
