The 4th of July is almost upon us and there’s no better place to celebrate America’s independence than in downtown Baltimore.
The city and local businesses have tons of fun events – from fireworks to barbecues – planned for Wednesday, July 4. Here’s a look at what to expect downtown on Independence Day:
Inner Harbor Fireworks
Downtown Baltimore boasts the region’s largest celebration of Independence Day, with epic fireworks show over the Inner Harbor, starting at 9:30 p.m.
But even before the fireworks start, the Inner Harbor is bustling, with live music from the U.S. Navy Band Cruisers, who will be stationed at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater at the corner of Pratt and Light Streets. The band will go on at 7 p.m., so you can head downtown early to enjoy the music before the sun goes down.
Picnic at the Top of the World
Baltimore’s World Trade Center (401 East Pratt Street) will open its top floor the evening of the fourth of July for a “picnic” and prime views of the fireworks. The celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. and features music, food and, of course, that sparkling view.
Get on a Boat
The fireworks will launch over the Inner Harbor – and the water itself is a great vantage point. Sea-lovers looking for a boat deck from which to watch the show have several different options.
The USS Constellation, one of Baltimore’s famed Historic Ships, will host a “backyard barbecue” on its deck, complete with music, tours of the ship and cannon firings.
Spirit Cruises has a fireworks dinner cruise planned, including a three-course buffet-style dinner, open bar and a DJ and dance floor.
Watermark Cruise’s Catherine Marie will set out from the finger piers, touring the harbor while serving a barbecue buffet catered by Red Hot & Blue.
Urban Pirates will host fun family cruises all day long on the 4th of July and a special three-hour adult “BYOG” (bring your own grog) cruise at 7 p.m.
Kiddie Fun
From July 1-9, Port Discovery Children’s Museum will get in on the Independence Day action with a week-plus of activities and crafts celebrating our nation’s heritage.
Where to Park
When you’re making plans to head downtown for the fourth, don’t forget to figure out where to park. The best spots will be those that are both conveniently located and easy to get in and out of after the festivities – and Harbor Park Garage, located at 55 Market Place – fits both bills.
