Going Wild Port Discovery

With Maryland primary voting over and the Baltimore election for mayor almost behind us, it’s time to focus local energy on more fun and sporting competitive pursuits. Whether you #RockTheRed or you’re all about the O’s, Baltimore is a good place to be this spring.

When you’re not going wild in the stands – or in front of the TV – cheering on your favorite team, carry that energy over to Port Discovery Children’s Museum for a hands-on “Going Wild Weekend.” On April 30 and May 1, the museum will host wildlife activities and programs all weekend long.

Listen to animal stories at Get Wild Circle Time, create your own clothespin caterpillar, or interact with real animals, like chickens, rabbits and turtles at the Wildlife Petting Zoo. The weekend will be “wild,” for sure, but in the best, most kid-friendly way.

ALS Fiesta 5K Run

Baltimore’s love of sports will be on display all over downtown on Saturday, May 7, as runners swarm to the area for the Fiesta 5K, with proceeds benefitting the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins.

The race starts at Power Plant LIVE! (34 Market Place, Baltimore), with registration opening at 6:30 a.m. and a race start time of 8 a.m.

It’s a great race and a wonderful cause – and also a good way to start a day full of family fun. After the race, refuel with brunch at Bryan Voltaggio’s Family Meal – you can’t go wrong with the biscuits and gravy – then check out the National Aquarium or Port Discovery before heading home.

And if the race was not survival of the fittest enough for you, then why not head over to Shark Alley at the National Aquarium.  Here you can come nose-to-nose with some of the Pacific Ocean’s most fearsome predators. From the Large Tooth Sawfish to the deceptively named Nurse Shark, Shark Alley allows you to immerse yourself in the domain of these toothy predators.  This underwater Game of Thrones is for the whole family.

Whether you’re in town for Going Wild Weekend, the Fiesta 5K, the National Aquarium or just a day or night out, Harbor Park Garage is a convenient and reasonably-priced place to park. Located close to Power Plant LIVE!, at 55 Market Place, the garage is right in the thick of things, and if you have questions about where to go or how to get someplace, attendants will be happy to point you in the right direction.

Also, Harbor Park is offering a special deal for Fiesta 5K race participants. Race participants can park for a $10 flat fee if they are in after 5 a.m. and out by 2 p.m. If you’re worried about finding a spot, use Parking Panda to guarantee a space in advance (for an additional $1 booking fee).

With parking concerns out of the way, all you’ll need to worry about is your race time!
